Create a stunning text effect
Though out this tutorial i will show you how to make a stunning aqua glowing text effect with Photoshop, so sit back and enjoy.
This tutorial is exclusive for www.designget.com
Here is what you are going to do
Ok let’s do it.
Open photoshop and create a new file
Size: 2574 w X 1321 H
Resolution: 300
Color Mode: RGB
Go to the background layer you will notice that there’s a lock on it, to remove this lock you need to double click on the layer and when the “new layer” pop up box appears “click ok”
now after you’ve unlocked the background layer you need to fill it with solid black color you can do THE HARD WAY by selecting the “paint bucket tool” and then select black color from the “set foreground color” icon then click on the canvas
OR you can just do some magic and do the following press “D” on your keyboard that will bring the default foreground/background colors which is “Black ” for the foreground and “White” for the background and then press “Alt+Backspace” on your keyboard to fill the canvas with the foreground color which is black in our case.
Now after you’ve filled our canvas with black we need to add some sort of light effect. select the brush tool and make the brush size: 1600 px and hardness:0%
then go to the foreground color selector and select aqua like color for me i’ve used #239fcb for the foreground color create a new layer name it: Back Light
and with your brush ready just click once on the canvas.
Then go and create another layer name it:Clouds
and make sure that your foreground it with the same color we’ve used with the brush and your background is white go to Filter>Render>Clouds and that should look like this
Then select the clouds layer and set it’s blending mode to “Overlay” once you’ve done that while the clouds layer still selected go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur with 50 px Radius
Then create a new layer name it: light tuner this layer is for tuning down the lights from the background you will notice how important it is later on, anyway fill this layer with solid black and with 50% opacity
For now we are done with the background, let’s do some magic, first pick a font like that one i’m working with “Minion Pro” and chose the type tool and type “WORLD” all in capital letters and give the text white color
and now let’s have some fun with the wonderful layer style options and effects, double click on the world text layer to open the layer style window
Please use the preference as below
1-Drop Shadow
2-Bevel and Emboss
3- Last but not least “Gradient Overlay”
double click on the gradient tab marked in red and the gradient editor will pop up try to reach something near the image below
and we are half way there you should be seeing something like this
Now select the World text layer in the layers panel and press “Ctrl+J” / “Cmd+j” for mac to duplicate the layer and name the duplicated layer: “Bluish Glow”
make sure u don’t move this layer f4rom it;s native position, right click on “bluish glow” and select “Clear layer Style” you should now see white text.
now select the “Bluish Glow” layer and open the layer style and add the following effects:
Please use the preference as below
1-Outer Glow
2-Stain
3-Color Overlay
you should see something like this “Don’t panic”
Now select the “Bluish Glow” text layer in the layers panel and right click on it and select Rasterize Layer which means that we are going to manipulate in it’s pixels, after you are done hold the “Ctrl+click / Cmd+Click for mac” on the “Bluish Glow” in the layers panel to select layer’s transparency
with the layer’s transparency selected go to select>Modify>Contract. when the contract selection window opens type in the contract by: 10 pixels and press ok, now you should noticed that the selection has been narrowed down, with the selection is still active press “Ctrl+Shift+I / Cmd+Shift+I for mac” to invert selection, or go to select>Inverse
ok with the selection inverted and active and the “Bluish Glow” layer selected Hit the backspace btn to delete the unwanted areas from the layer
Now select the “Bluish Glow” layer and add a layer mask on it by hitting the mask btn in the bottom of the layers panel, then select the gradient tool use black to white gradient and then select the “Bluish Glow” mask and with the gradient tool “Linear gradient” click and drag from the center of the canvas to the top that should do the trick.
some add-ons won’t harm so let’s do the text reflection, duplicate the World text layer and flip it vertically in place don’t move it add a layer mask as we did before and then make the same gradient step until you reach something close to this
PS: remove the layer’s effects and change it’s color to #1a778e
One more step and we are done , now duplicate the “Bluish Glow” and scale it to around 4 or 5 times it’s size to make the glow effect like this below, if you noticed that those red marked archs are the letter “O” from the “Bluish Glow”layer
And here is the final result that you should achieve, if you have any questions please post it here and i will be more than happy to help.
